The story of Chris is about two people: Chris the injured teenager and Chris's Mom and the struggles she went thru trying to care for Chris and for her other children after a DUI put Chris into a coma. Chris was a pedestrian when she was run over by a drunk driver. Her Mom learned of the injury second hand, from a friend who had been listening to the police scanner. She had a long term coma, with little progress through a lengthy process of coma emergence. Her post-acute rehab stay ultimately made a major difference in her brain injury recovery, enabling her to return to some work. However, she has been unable to maintain competitive employment.
